Annual Bookmark Contest
Visit from the Public Library
There was a school holiday on October 10th, so we kicked off Teen Read Week on Tuesday the 11th with a visit from one of the teen librarians at the Jefferson Public Library, Natalie Juneau. She brought many books to share and gave a book talk on each one. The students were so engaged as Natalie talked about some awesome titles that she thought would be of great interest to them.
Movie Day
Several years ago, we started a tradition during TRW to show an old Twilight Episode that fit the theme for the year. For Read for the Fun of It, an episode filled with dark humor called "Escape Clause" was selected. It was shown during each lunch, and all the students from 6th on up loved the black comedy evident in the consequences one faces by selling your soul to the devil.
Fun of it Guessing Game
Ever since we started celebrating TRW at PFTSTA, the students have been playing a guessing game. The questions come from literature and movies, and this very simple game is always a highlight of the week. Maybe it is because of the chocolate prizes or maybe just because the teens and tweens like a challenge.
Getting Crafty
For this year's TRW craft, the students used fun paper to create an origami transforming ninja star.
Guess the number of Laffy Taffy candies:
One of the passive activities that we do yearly for TRW is guess the number of candies in the jar. To fit the theme, Laffy Taffy candies were selected for this year's contest. There were a total of 357 packages in the jar, and eighth grader, Luke Chastant guessed 356. As the winner, he gets to keep the candy.
