Teachers in all the content areas are asked to use the same MLA/Research Rubric when assigning major research projects.

English Language Arts
High School ELA
English I students read Animal Farm by George Orwell and participated in this lesson on how to spot fake news in conjunction with the novel.

English I students learn about Banned Book Week by reading articles and finding evidence to support the author's claim for the freedom to read September 2019
English I students to create a printed three page or greater booklet with images representing the influence of classical mythology in the world of today. February 2015

English II students read Erik Larson's Devil in the White City. The teacher asked them to research the time period of 1890's Chicago to create a presentation and write a two page paper. December 2017
English II students in preparation for a persuasive/argumentative essay visit the library to begin research. February 2015
English III students read Cormac McCarthy's All the Pretty Horses. Students were asked to research the violence and Western imagery in his works. February 2016
Middle School ELA
6th graders read Flush by Hiasson and studied the importance of conservation. As a culminating activity they created signs with statistics and facts about the need for us to be more mindful of how we treat the environment using this set of links. March 2019
6th grade learn Noodle Tools by creating a bibliography for research to correlate with reading of Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone September 2019
In middle school, the social studies research paper will begin in the students' English class. Open here for the website with all the details. September 2018
7th graders take a four and a half week research class as part of an elective module and must complete this pathfinder for the course. January 2019
6th and 7th graders write a letter to the next president through the Letters to the President 2.o project. October 2016
7th graders read an historical fiction about Hurricane Katrina. To learn more about Hurricane Katrina and the Ninth Ward in New Orleans, the students will complete a pathfinder by using this Livebinder. February 2019
6th graders read The House of Dies Drear by Virginia Hamilton. The teacher asked the students to research people, places, or timeline of the Underground Railroad and create an infographic to illustrate what they learned. March 2016
6th graders read Flush by Carl Hiassen. The students completed this research activity on water pollution to learn how to create a bibliography with Easybib. updated September 2015

Field Trip to Ninth Ward in 2017
The 7th graders took their annual trip to the Ninth Ward in New Orleans on March 13th to tour the area and see the rebirth from Hurricane Katrina's devastation. This is part of a collaborative unit between the English teachers and the librarian. Find examples of the students' final products for this project on the librarian's blog here.
